Picture for Ross Ancell not availableRoss Ancell is a non executive director of various businesses and Chairman of Churngold Group of Companies in Construction, Recycling and Remediation. Other Churngold interests are in Land Development and Data Hosting. New Zealand born and, qualified Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand, has worked in the UK since 1978 and was appointed as a governor Nov 2009.

Dr Bryan Carroll

Dr Bryan Carroll is Deputy Director of Bristol Zoo Gardens and was appointed as a governor in May 2007. After training as a zoologist he worked for the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust before joining Bristol Zoo in 1995, first as Operations Manager and from 2003 as Deputy Director.


Roger Ellis

Roger Ellis is the e-Learning and Resources Officer at Filton College and was elected Staff governor in November 2007. He graduated from UWE with a BA Politics and Information Systems Degree (Dual hons). He has been a Personal Tutor on both vocational and academic programs and is now the Staff trainer for ILT as well as managing the ILT team and several ILT projects.


Steve EvansSteve Evans is the Director of Community Services at South Gloucestershire Council. Steve began his career in leisure management working in Hampshire, London and Hertfordshire before joining South Gloucestershire in 1996. Steve is now responsible for a number of community and environmental services which range from waste management, environmental Health and Trading Standards to sport/culture/libraries and community safety services.

Gillian Foxton

Gillian Foxton works for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) as Information Systems Project Manager. She has worked in IT for the last twenty years in both local and central government but started working life in Social Services and Education Welfare. She is also a Governor at New Siblands Special School in South Gloucestershire. Gillian is an active Public and Commercial Services Union member and is PCS Branch Secretary at HEFCE. She is currently on SW TUC Regional Council and a member of SW TUC Executive and the SW TUC Equalities Committees. She joined Filton College Corporation in May 08.


Marie-Annick Gournet

Marie-Annick Gournet is Senior Lecturer in French and Area Studies at the University of the West of England. She includes Schoolslink Project Coordinator and Chair of Aimhigher West Special Advisory Group among various activities aimed at raising aspirations, improving attainment and facilitating progression to higher education of black and minority ethnic students. She has been a governor since Jan 07.


Kevin Hamblin

Kevin Hamblin was appointed Principal and Chief Executive of Filton College in December 2001. Born in Nottingham, he left school at 16 and undertook a Mining Engineering Apprenticeship with British Coal before becoming a Colliery Training Officer.

In 1989, he started a BA (honours) degree in Business at Wolverhampton Business School whilst being a sponsored student and working with BAA Gatwick Airport Limited personnel and training department. On completion of the degree, he worked as commercial manager then commercial director of a private training company before becoming Head of Open Learning at Swindon College in 1997.

This led to a role as Head of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering at Swindon before becoming Vice Principal at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire in 1999.


Keith Hicks

Keith Hicks is Head of Marketing and Communications at the University of the West of England and has been a governor of the College since October 2003. A graduate of the University of Bradford he has worked for a variety of major companies, including Lloyds TSB and Prudential Assurance. His early career was in sales and later developed into marketing and communications.


John Huggett

John Huggett has been Chair of Filton College Corporation since February 2002 and was previously Vice-Chair from 1998.

Born in 1944 he attended St George Grammar School Bristol and whilst undertaking a Student Apprenticeship with the British Aircraft Corporation he attended Bristol College of Science and Technology followed by the London Business School. A Chartered Engineer he has held various senior positions within the aerospace industry. He has always shown a keen interest in training and development and is a mentor for graduates.


Roger Hutchinson

Roger Hutchinson has been chair of Filton Town Council since 1996 and a member of South Gloucestershire Council, where he is Leader of the Labour Group and Deputy Leader of the Council, since 1995. Following training as an electrician with British Rail he worked as a trade union official and a Labour Party Regional Organiser. He joined Filton College Corporation in October 2002.

Alison Lamb Alison Lamb is one of the Student Governors and is currently in her 2nd year studying Sociology, Psychology and Law. She was appointed as Student Union President in March 2009.


Ian Lewis

Ian Lewis has been Head of Finance at the Higher Education Funding Council for England since 1993. Ian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Prior to joining the University Grants Committee in 1988 on secondment from the Department of Trade and Industry, Ian worked for 11 years in a number of senior financial and general management roles in the engineering and other industries, including five years as managing director of an engineering company.


Liqun Ma

Liqun Ma represents South Gloucestershire Chinese Association. She works as a web manager/IT officer at the University of the West of England and is Head Teacher at Avon Chinese School. A graduate in Applied Physics, she worked in the publishing industry in China before moving to this country where she obtained an MSc in Computer-Based Learning and worked at Queens University Belfast before moving to UWE. She joined the Corporation in Jun 06.


Joe Mcready

Jo McCready is Senior Instructor and Development Manager at Undercover Rock Ltd based in the Bristol Climbing Centre. After graduating from University of Manchester, he worked as a Special Needs teacher until 1999. After this time he worked in corporate training using experiential learning as the vehicle for development. Since 2004 he has designed, run and marketed a range of developmental courses for schools and colleges throughout the South West region. He joined the Corporation in Feb 08.

Sue Nokes is head of the commercial department and the public sector practice at a firm of Bristol solicitors where she specialises in education and IT projects. She grew up and was educated in the North West and, after taking a degree in languages at St Hilda's College Oxford, moved to Bristol in 1977. She qualified as a solicitor in 1980 and, as well as working for her current firm, spent 15 years as in-house counsel to Clarks Shoes.


Prue Taylour

Prue Taylour is a former Managing Director of Tribal Education Consulting which provides a variety of consultancy services to the learning and skills sector. She was formerly Vice-Principal of South Bristol College and later Deputy Principal, City of Bristol College. She holds a Masters degree in Administration of Further and Higher Education and joined the Corporation in Sep 06.
