2009 - 2010 Exams

The exam boards set all the exam dates so all exams run on the same day at the time across the UK.

Click the link below to access all of the dates and times for this summer’s exams.

Sports Students
If you have a sports match that clashes with your exams, you must inform your sports tutor!

Where is your exam going to be?

We are currently booking all the rooms for the summer exams. Room allocation depends on the amount of students sitting each exam and rooms that are available for us to use. For all room allocations check the exam summer timetable on the exam notice boards.

  • Main Site – near student services and the vending machines
  • A block – on the ground floor near the water cooler
  • WISE – on the main notice board

ROOM SPLITS - If we are unable to house all students for the same exam in the same room we have to split the exam into different rooms. A notice of the room split can be found on the exam notice board at least 2 days prior to the exam.

REMEMBER - Rooms may change! We suggest you check the exam notice board on the day of your exam! We always recommend that you give yourself enough time to arrive at college, check the exam notice board and find your room before your exam starts.

What to remember

  • Be at your exam room 30 minutes before your exam starts! - It seems like a long time but everyone needs to be in the room, seated and ready so the exam starts on time.
  • No mobile phones!TURN IT OFF AND PUT IT IN YOUR BAG!! If your phone goes during an exam or we see you using your phone during an exam, penalties will be incurred, the exam board will be notified and you may be disqualified from the exam or the complete subject.
  • All bags at the front of the room! – If you bring a bag please leave it at the front of the room and take only what you need with you to your desk. This saves people injuring themselves trying to get to they’re desks.
  • A pen - THE most obvious thing to bring with you but many students do not bring any stationery with them. Check with your tutor what you need to bring. Do you need a ruler, protractor, calculator, a pencil? It is down to you to bring the right equipment. Please note: if you want your pencil case in the exam it must be transparent!!
  • Consideration – You may have finished your exam but your friends and other students may still be sitting theirs! Throughout the summer the majority of exams will be in A Block with multiple exams running at the same time. Once you have finished your exam and have permission to leave, leave A block as quickly and quietly as possible.

DON’T PANIC!! – As well as setting rules and regulations, the Exams Team is here to help you. If you have any questions or problems about exams, contact us or call in and we will try our best to help. If there is a problem on the day of your exam call into our Summer Exam Room in A114. Top of page

Key Skills

Key skills are an important part of your studies at Filton. Whatever you decide to do you will need to communicate, work with numbers and have basic IT skills. Remember a level 2 key skills qualification is equivalent to a GCSE grade C.

If you are thinking of going onto higher education, key skills will give you points on your UCAS tariff.

Key skills tests take place in D205A in the IN2IT centre on Main site at the following times:

  • Monday 3.45 – 5.00
  • Tuesday 11.15. - 12.45
  • Wednesday 1.15. – 2.45
  • Thursday 11.15 -12.45
  • Friday 9.45 – 12.30

Tests at WISE are in room WS17 – Thursday 3.00pm – 4.30pm.

Your key skills tutor will enter you for the test and tell you which session you need to attend.

Thursday 15th April 2010 March GCSE Results Available
Monday 19th April 2010 Deadline for Maths Units 1-3 (Summer)

Have you missed your deadline?
If you have, don’t worry. We can still enter you for your exam but you will have to pay late fees on top of any resit fees where applicable.
If you are unable to pay the fees we recommend you talk to your tutor, student services or the finance department to see if they are able to help. Because the late fees are set by the exam boards we are unable to waiver them.

Get Organised

We try to alert students to the deadlines as soon as possible, generally about 2 months in advance. We advise tutors and place notices on the exam notice boards. And as of this year we will publish your deadline dates online. Is it your job to get your exam entry form to us before the deadline so please don’t please it until the last minute!!

Special Consideration/Access Arrangements

Some students have particular requirements when it comes to exams and examination conditions.
Access Arrangements must be arranged for the student before the examination or assessment. Requests are sent to the exam board along with personal assessment evidence to decide if the student is entitled to additional help with their exams. If you think you may require additional help please contact student services who will then arrange assessments etc.

Special Consideration can be granted to students who were affected by an event, illness or injury that occurred at the time of the exam. Any event that you think affected your ability at the time must be reported to the Exams Officer on the day of the exam. This is reported to the exam board and they will have the final say on any special consideration permitted.
