Samir Adrissi, Filton College student from Bristol and member of the College’s successful Amercian Football Academy ‘The PRIDE’, was offered, and accepted a scholarship to study at Illinois College. Adrissi is going there to study Law alongside American Football training.
Samir received the ‘coaches player of the year’ award at Filton College’s Sports Awards 2010 for excellence on the field and achieving Straight A’s in the classroom.
“Myself and the squad are as proud of achievements in the classroom as on the field. We stress the importance of student in student athlete here at Filton College.” Said Head Coach, Ben Herod. “It was Samir’s ability to achieve in the classroom that made it possible for Illinois College to give him a scholarship to play football.
“Samir is the second player to be leaving the PRIDE this season. The other player to leave, Jordan Crouch has also accepted a scholarship to train and study in the USA. Like Jordan, Samir was a captain for the PRIDE and will be difficult for the team to replace in 2010.”
Coach Worsell, Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback’s Coach at Illinois College, comments: “Illinois College is very excited to have a young man from The PRIDE coming to fulfill the dream of being a student athlete. We hope Samir continues to excel and become a productive member of the program both on and off the field.”
Samir comments: “Looking back on my time at Filton College with the PRIDE I have nothing but good memories. It has literally changed my life in the best way possible! At the academy I have been taught much more than just football. The hard work, dedication and time management I have learnt is something that I have applied to my studies and work outside of education.
This, I know, will make me successful. The PRIDE allowed me to get high quality, regular training, and also games against American opposition; you wont find these opportunities anywhere else in the UK. If you are looking to progress in American Football, Filton PRIDE is where you need to be.
“As sad as I am to be leaving, I am very excited about the challenges and experiences ahead of me. I really can’t wait to get to the states and begin this new chapter in my life. Playing NCAA football has been a dream of mine since I began playing football, and thanks to my coaches, teammates, family and friends it has become true.”
If you dream about playing stateside and following in the footsteps of Samir, contact Ben Herod, Head Coach of Filton PRIDE American Football Academy to enquire about joining.
