Level of Study

Filton College offers six levels of study:

Levels Programmes Entry requirements
Entry OCN Entry Basic Skills Curriculum

Level 1

Nationally recognised qualifications that allow you to progress to level 2 and/or into employment

For those with no GCSE qualifications, or for those that have a selections of GCSE's below C Grade

Level 2
(Intermediate)

GCSE, NVQ 2, BTEC First Diploma, GNVQ Intermediate

For those with two GCSE's at Grade D (or equivalent)

Level 3
(Advanced)

AS/A2 Level (A Levels), AVCE, BTEC National Diploma, NVQ3, CACHE

For those students who have:

  • Level 2 qualification with at least merit grades
  • Four GCSE's at Grade C to study National Diploma, AVCE or CACHE
  • Five GCSE's at Grade C to do a three AS/A2 programme
  • More than five Grade C's with some B's to do a four AS/A2 programme
  • Merits and some distinctions and some C's at GCSE can be accepted onto an AS/A2 programme

Level 4
(Higher Education)

First year of HNC/HND, first degree or foundation degree, NVQ4

Completion of a Level 3 programme or equivalent

Level 5
(Higher Education)
Second year of HND/HNC, first degree or or foundation degree, NVQ5 Completion of a Level 4 programme or equivalent
