‘Getting Educated Achieving Recognition’ – The NOCN Step-Up Qualification comprises of core skills units and optional units, these are a flexible and responsive range of general and pre-vocational qualifications.

This course will offer more freedom, choice and flexibility and enables young people to:

 


  • Choose between smaller, bite-sized chunks of learning or whole qualifications
  • Build up achievements at their own pace and in different learning contexts
  • Combine learning in a way that will help them achieve their goals
  • Transfer achievements between qualifications to avoid duplication learning
  • Engage and motivate learners to identify their individual and personal strengths for progression to further study and/or employment
  • Develop their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
  • Opportunities to improve own employability
  • Take part in enrichment activities
  • Experience work placements and taster days

This course is intended to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required in preparation for learning and work. IN-GEAR provides essential learning opportunities to support specific needs and progression routes for young people.

Progression opportunities include SOAR (e2e) and full time Further Education courses.

FLEX

Flex

FLEX – ‘Filton’s Leading To Employment Xperience’, is designed to meet the needs of young people aged 16 to 18 who are unsure of what decisions to make regarding their future or have not gained the qualifications and personal skills to access full time education or employment. FLEX will equip the young person to become independent, self-motivated, well informed of the choices open to them and empowered to take control of their lives. FLEX delivery meets the need for new styles of teaching and learning to engage young people who are not yet ready for an apprenticeship, a full time college course, or for work, and to prepare them primarily to progress onto a more advanced programme.

The curriculum is based on three interdependent core strands, comprising:

  • Functional Skills – Maths, English and ICT
  • Vocational skills and development
  • Personal and social growth

FLEX - BUILD

The ‘FLEX – Build’ programme offers a fantastic opportunity to develop work based skills within the construction sector, progressing to one of our full-time courses or leading to employment.

As a ‘FLEX Build’ student they can look forward to the following:

  • Learning and developing practical skills relating to the construction industry
  • Assistance in finding employment
  • The chance to study on a full time course on completion of the ‘FLEX Build’ programme.

Learning will take place through various methods such as:

  • Class room based activities
  • One-to-one coaching
  • Group activities
  • Presentations from industry experts
  • External visits

FLEX IMAGE

The ‘FLEX – Image’ programme offers a fantastic opportunity to develop work based skills within the beauty sector, progressing to one of our full-time courses or leading to employment.

As a ‘FLEX Image’ student they can look forward to the following:

  • Developing practical skills relating to the beauty industry
  • Salon visits so you experience what it is like to work in the beauty sector
  • Assistance in finding employment
  • The chance to study on a full time course at the College on completion of the ‘FLEX Image’ programme.

Learning will take place through various methods such as:

  • Class room and salon based activities
  • One-to one coaching
  • Group activities
  • Presentations from industry experts
  • External visits

FLEX ANIMAL

The FLEX Animal offer will comprise of the following:

  • Practical Animal Handling (Exotic Animals)
  • Practical Animal Handling (Small Mammals)
  • Group Tutorial
  • Personal Development Module
  • Social Responsibility Module
  • Small Animal Care (Vocational Skills)
  • Investigating Land and Environment Module (Vocational Skills)

FLEX BUSINESS

Flex Business

As a ‘FLEX Business’ student they can look forward to the following:

 

 

 


  • Learning and developing practical skills relating to Business
  • Assistance in finding employment in the sector
  • The chance to study on a full time course on completion of the ‘FLEX Business’ programme.

Learning will take place through various methods such as:

  • Class room based activities
  • One-to-one coaching
  • Group activities
  • Presentations from industry experts
  • External visits

This is an extension of our FLEX offer. The FLEX Business programme will include a selection of the following:

  • Working in Business
  • How a Business works
  • Finance in Business
  • Administration
  • Health and Safety at work
  • Customer Service
  • How to start your own Business

Progression opportunities include SOAR and other full time Further Education programmes.

SOAR

SOAR

‘SOAR’ – Skilled Occupation Access Route is the new Entry to Employment offer at Filton College. SOAR is a Pre Apprenticeship programme designed to engage young people who are not yet ready to undertake a full apprenticeship programme. SOAR is designed to prepare learners for their future working life.

SOAR is designed to meet the needs of young people aged 16 to 18 who are unsure of what decisions to make regarding their future employment prospects or have not gained the qualifications and personal skills to access employment and an Apprenticeship.

The SOAR curriculum is based on three interdependent core strands, comprising:

  • Functional Skills – Maths, English and ICT
  • Vocational skills and development
  • Personal and social growth

SOAR gives you the opportunity to learn new skills:

  • Develop skills to enter the world of work
  • Try out different vocational areas
  • Develop job search skills (CV, letter writing) to help find the job you want
  • Get help with your Maths and English

SOAR will prepare them for work and help them to decide which job is right for them. It will help them get their first step on the career ladder. SOAR gives them the skills they need for life and work.

The intended progression destination is Apprenticeship provision with an employer.
