Entry Requirements BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design or Photography related subject. Art and Design AVCE, A-Levels including Art or Photography, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design or Photography. Students are required to have studied to GCSE (or equivalent) level in English Language. Students with other backgrounds with an exceptional portfolio may also be considered

The course is suitable for those students wishing to extend their creative and technical skills in preparation for progression into a career in photography or related industries.

Students examine in depth the work of photographers and artists in both a contemporary and historical context, through a series of formal lectures, tutorials and research work that is linked to the production of their practical and written coursework. This is complemented by technical workshops and lectures designed to assist in the development of candidates’ photographic skills and techniques.

In addition to the shared modules, Photography students study modules in:

  • Film and digital camera formats
  • Studio practice
  • Digital imaging techniques
  • Analogue print techniques
  • Editorial/photographic book production
Study progresses to specialising in a particular aspect of photography through a range of intensive and creative practical assignments, which will enable the development of a portfolio of work to support job applications within the photographic industries or progression into further academic studies. There is a materials fee of £120 per year.

Extra Activities Students will undertake an industrial placement during year 2 of the course. There is a comprehensive programme of visits to local and national galleries
Progression It is expected that students from this course will be suitably prepared for entry to employment within the creative industries. Alternatively students can progress t Level 4: 2 Ye ars o an Honours year at UWE.
